How Does Osteopathic Treatment Help Arthritis?
Arthritis causes inflammation and stiffness in the joints, and it can make everyday movement feel unpredictable. Osteopathic treatment takes a gentle, hands-on approach that focuses on improving joint mobility, easing muscular tension around affected areas, and supporting the body's own capacity to manage pain. Rather than a one-size-fits-all routine, treatment is adapted to which joints are affected, how the arthritis is progressing, and what matters most to you day to day, whether that is gardening, walking the dog, or simply getting a good night's sleep.

How Osteopathy Can Help Your Arthritis
Ease Stiffness and Pain: Gentle mobilisation and soft tissue work can reduce the stiffness and discomfort that often build up around arthritic joints.
Improve Everyday Mobility: Treatment aims to keep you moving more freely, whether that is climbing the stairs at home or getting back to the garden.
Support Long-Term Joint Health: We focus on sustainable management, not just short-term relief, so you have a plan for living well with arthritis over time.
Frequently Asked Questions
Osteopathy is a gentle, hands-on approach, and treatment is always adapted to the joints involved and how far your arthritis has progressed. Our team, including Jane Kaushal, Ann Thompson, and Hannah Allmark, are all registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) and tailor technique and pressure to what is appropriate for you.
This varies from person to person, depending on which joints are affected, how long you have had symptoms, and your day-to-day goals. Many patients start with a course of sessions and move to occasional maintenance visits once symptoms settle. We will discuss a realistic plan at your first appointment.
Your osteopath will ask about your symptoms, medical history, and how arthritis is affecting your daily life, then carry out a physical assessment of the affected joints. From there, they will explain what they have found and agree a treatment plan with you before any hands-on work begins.
No referral is needed. You can book directly with Hands on Health, and if you are already under the care of a GP or rheumatologist for your arthritis, osteopathy can work alongside that care.
